| Hard Drive Recovery Needed
Does anyone here do hard drive recovery? My 120GB(66GB Used) Hard Drive has just stopped spinning. I cant afford those services that charge thousands of $$. I have practically lost all of my projects that fund my life. If noone does do recovery here, then does anyone know of companies that do it cheap?

I was able to just wiggle the IDE connector on one I had that quit spinning. It finally started up again and I was able to copy most the stuff off. I was also able to use the Ultimate Boot CD and Bart's PE Builder to recover more files that I couldn't before.
You might also try the HDD mfr's software to see if you can't recover as well. Ultimate Boot CD Bart's PE Builder

| www.grc.com spinrite may help you, but it sounds like you might need to do a controller board swap, where you get the exact same model no. and revision no. duplicate drive, and fit the electronics from the new onto the mechanics of the old.

also, a sharp tap or slap has been known to unjam a sticking mech, but attempt this at your own risk. |

With the IDE and power cables connected, just wiggle them slightly. Don't get wild.
I've done this on a couple of drives for recovery. Here's a link to another thread where all the mfr's are listed. |
