| I accidentally deleted "Disk Cleanup"
While doing maintenance, I did the "Disk Cleanup" button, and it showed me a bunch of files in the IE Content folder, which I deleted manually instead of letting "Disk Cleanup" to do it. Now it doesn't work. So how do I use the Win98SE CD to restore that? |

Simply go to Control Panel then choose Add/Remove programs, then find the program in the list
and double click it. This should come up with a window to allow you to remove, or repair the program. If for this moment my brain is on a slightly different wave, there is another possible way. You can do the same process, but instead of the Add/Remove Programs Tab, you will see Windows Components... button. Click this, and go to Internet Explorer and uncheck it. Click Ok, (or Apply...) then Restart, go to this same place, and re-click the checkbox to have windows install it almost the same way that it uninstalled it. This most likely will fix the problem.
Hope these directions weren't too confusing.. (i may have an old picture if you need it?) |

P.S. when you have a working internet connection again, save future problems like this and
get yourself a better browser: http://www.getfirefox.com
or http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
You will no longer have to deal with silly browsers not cooperating. and i have yet to run into the silly hi jacking scenario as with IE.

_actually_ you could probably use my computer to browse to the microsoft website and download the internet explorer installer. Depending on the extent of the damage you may need the IE installer to fix the issue.

It's not MSIE that is broken. It is DISK CLEANUP. How can I restore that? |

I Apologize, i would say insert the win98 cd into the cd tray, close all the windows that may open
because of autorun, and open up a search, (i use Win-Key F). Search for cleanmgr.exe
or diskclean.exe, i forget which one exactly. From here, if the search returns the program on
the cd, R-Click and choose Open Containing Folder. then, on the computer in question open the
C:\Windows\System32 Folder (i believe that's where it originally resides) then simply drag it into
the System32 folder.
If this doesn't work, i apologise and will research it further-
Hope this helps |

none of those are on the cd. you might have to reinstall win98, not a new install, just install over your existing setup to repair it. this will keep all your current settings. i'll look into this some more. |
