| CD/DVD Combo Drive Won't Read Blank CDRs
I have an Artec CD/DVD combo drive which appears to work perfectly when reading CDs, CDRs, CDRWs, and DVDs.
However, it does not recognize when I have inserted blank CDRs into the drive.
How do I track down the problem?

Unfortunately, this "Artec" drive didn't come with any drivers. Which software did you reinstall? |

I wish. The first thing I did was try to get a new windows driver for it, no such luck... and unless I'm blind, there's no XP driver for the drive listed at the artecusa.com website.
There is a driver listed for this unit, but it's for DOS. I tried installing the DOS driver, but, that driver relied on MSCDEX being available, which it is not... XP uses MSCDEXNT, AFAIK.
On the other hand, there IS a firmware update available for the drive, but, uh... the instructions aren't in great English.
I'll try reinstalling NERO (it was already screwed up when I installed NERO, but I've turned off the Windows drag and drop thing since then, so, maybe that will do something).
If this doesn't work, do you suggest I risk the firmware update, and, got any more ideas? |
