One memory stick - fine, 2 memory stick - BSOD!

Hello,

Wonder if anyone can help. I have an AMD 64 3000+ system, running Windows XP, and trying to use 2 sticks of 512 DDR memory. Basically the system runs fine with only one stick, but when I have 2 stick I get the Blue Screen of Death whenever I try to do something remotely memory intensive. Both chips have been tested and run fine....

I'm afraid I'm no techy, so I don't know what info I need to provide. Here's some info on my system from Sandra.

Would the memory happen to be Geil memory?

Damn, themightyyw didnt want to leave anything out did you? LOL, Im just messing around. What type of RAM is it. What brand? First impression is well hell, I dont know, that could happen if you had two different frequencies of RAM in there, like one stick was PC3200 and the other was PC2700. You said it only goes to the BSOD when you try to do something memory intensive, like what. How memory intensive?

Thanks for the replies! Both the sticks are identical specs (I posted the spec above as you were writing!). PC goes to BSOD if, for example, I load a game. Seems ok for web browsing etc tho I'm not 100%. The system seems stable when idling however.

Is your computer recognizing all of the RAM? and you said that the system runs fine with only 1 sitck in. Is that with either one of your sticks in? can you swap them out when only running one without any problems. This would let you know if you have a bad stick of RAM at least?

Hi,

Not in the system dump above - only one stick shown. However system does recognise both sticks. and I'd even say the system runs faster for the short while that the comp runs with 2 sticks.

just out of curiosity, did anyone else happen to look at the voltages in his post?
"Voltage Sensor(s)
CPU Voltage : 1.58V
+3.3V Voltage : 3.17V
+5V Voltage : 5.08V
+12V Voltage : 11.31V
-12V Voltage : 0.47V
-5V Voltage : 1.69V
Standby Voltage : 4.90V
Battery Voltage : 0.03V"

not that it would necessarily be the source of the problem, but haveing 0.47V instead of -12 and 1.69 instead of -5 cant be good...

I could be wrong but I dont think negative rails are support to be like -12 or -5....
May want to try manually relaxing the timing of the memory, or increasing DRAM voltage slightly.
