¿ New computer has me angry ?

i got a new mobo and processor. amd 3200+ winchester and Abit av8 mguru mobo.

new case as well. So first the thing wouldnt start cause the mobo didnt like my ddr, I only can use 1 stick instead of two. I get it on, install drivers, TRY to play HL2 and soon as i buy a gun my cpu all freezes. It reboots. The computer comes back on and i keep getting random reboots.

I installed some crap called amd xp processor driver. I didnt know what it was but it said something an error that happens when the cpu runs at 100% when the power fluctuates. come to find out when my cpu freezes during game, or just freeze i check my task manager and it says my cpu is running at 100% and it wont drop or move.

what is the deal, all the google searches in the world are not helping me out.

what power supply and video card do you have? it is possible your psu isn't powerful enough, which would cause the crashes and reboots.

what is your cpu temp. ?
Is it getting to hot and do you have enough airflow ?

i must be seeing your "Sig" because it says "Intel" specs not AMD, what is your Specs for your current system ....

Maybe bittorrent didn't work with sp2 because you didn't turn off the windows firewall.

cant find my cpu temp. I used to use a program called aida32 to look at my cpu info. when i look at it now my sensors section just shows a grey screen. same "SIG" specs cept for the processor and mobo. I cant live a life without cS:S

all the drivers are up to date for the mobo. I reinstalled the "amd athlon 64 processor driver" to 1.1.0.18 and it didnt help. HL2 rebooted before i could even choose a team. I found this site while i was installing the driver http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330512

at the bottom it says the prob was fixed in sp2, I dont wante sp2 and Im not even sure if I'm having that problem.

Bittorrent slowed greatly, I even changed the settings. dont remember what it was called but sp2 supposedly limited uploads to 10 or something, the thing that was unlimited before sp2. still torrents ran slow so i restored my previous settings to sp1.

what power supply and video card do you have?

btw...SP2 only limits 10 failed connections, not normal connections. It still allows as many connections as you want. I've had no problems with bittorrent in sp2.

sissoft Sandra 2004 might help out also... you might try Motherboard Monitor to...

hmmm, you sure the HSF etc is installed correctly on your cpu ? just want to rule out a cpu overheating problem.... sometimes you can install them backwards and they won't make full contact with the core...

how about the airflow inside the case.... good ?

if all that's good, might try SP2, see what it does... you can always uninstall it.

did you do a format and clean install of Win XP when you installed your new MB and cpu ?

My friend was having the same problems with two PC's that he built for his neighbors kids. They both had 9600 XT's in them and ASUS motherboards. They kept locking up after playing a few minutes of HL or right when the game loaded up. Me and him troubleshot them for weeks and couldnt figure it out. We took the video card out of his system, a nVidia MX440 or something like that, and switched that with one of the 9600's. After that the systems worked fine, so we just went out and bought another MX440 for like $60 or so for the other PC. We just kept the 9600 in his system and are going to put the other 9600 in a system that he's building for his little brother. I guess there was some conflicts between the 9600 and the mobo, try using a different video card if you have access to it and see if that clears it up, it worked for us.

Also check to make sure your DDR voltage in your BIOS matches the required voltage for you RAM. When I first built my system my default DDR voltage was .1 V to low and it gave me lockup problems.

Well if there was a fix in sp2, well then give it a try.
With bit torrent, there are new versions that you could try. If the connection limmit is a problem, you can change that with a program like this: http://www.lvllord.de/
Now you dont have any reason not to use sp2
If you have an ati card try the latest drivers with direct x 9.0c
    Catalyst 4.12 non-ccc
    http://www.ati.com/home/online/CatalystXPdriver.html
    Catalyst 4.12 CCC
    http://www.ati.com/home/online/CatalystCCCdriver.html

    For your motherboard,
go here and get your latest motherboard drivers, the latest via chipset drivers:
    http://www.viaarena.com/Default.aspx?PageID=2

    Or get the files directly:
Via hyperion 4in1 drivers(for your mobo):
    http://www.viaarena.com/downloads/dr...n1_v455vp1.zip
Get the audio drivers and whatever else you need from via's site.

Also what sort of memory do you own? Also Does both memory sticks work, just seperatly? If you can generic memory that might be the problem. However it seems more like a power issue.

the power supply of the new case is 400 watts, powermax brand. just in case i got a faulty power supply i put my mobo into my old case with a 300 watt and it still restarted or kicked me when i played CS;s.

so now it must be either the mobo or amd3200+. if i would of just stuck with intel i would have bene alright.

I made sure enough voltage was being sent to my ddr like someone said. I bump it up .4Vs and i was hit with an alarm.

No I didnt reinstall windows. I've transported my HDs to other mobos before without problems. i may try that next on my empty HD.

the cpu has the stock heatsink and fan. I've read many a post saying ppl over clocked this same cpu up to 3.6mhz with everything stock.

IF a cpu is placed into the socket in any type of wrong way my computer shoulndt start at all correct???

ill take fan off to make sure its all connecting but the way it makes u snap the heatsink down makes me think it should be tightly fitted on the processor.

THANKS FOR ALL HELP N IDEAS PPL. now ill hit post before my system reboots on me

oih yeah, and thanks jeordie for looking for all those drivers but I had em all already and looked at those pages today too. even after using lvllord my downloads woudlnt past 4kbs. i uninstalled and to this day i cant get the "GREEN" light in bit tornado. i only get yellows since that awful, awful day i DLed sp2.

ah...you should reinstall windows. I'm amazed it even booted actually. One of the first things xp does it load chipset drivers, which should cause it to blue screen on startup. Try reinstalling windows before you do anything else...that should fix it.

BTW, it's not because you have an AMD processor, you most likely would have had similar problems with an intel processor.

If your cpu was installed incorrectly then yes, it wouldn't have started. Although you can't put them in wrong anyways since the pins only line up one way.

ok new problem. so i format my HD, my 160 gb. i try to install xp pro but while copying files for the setup it says 'file coudlnt copy correctly" retry or skip. different files each time wont copy and I end up seeing an error screen.

ok so i go to a 40 gb HD to try it out and finally xp pro's setup copies all the files 100% then says "15 seconds to restart" where it restarts n then the rest of the install begins. WELLL, it restarts and then says

    missing boot.ini file.
    booting from c:windows\

then nothing happens. i've installed winoows at least 10 times. i've never had any issues with install. now i've had 2. could i have a bad MOBO or AMD chip. the mobo smelled so damn fresh out the bag i dont think it's bad.

currently right now both my my harddrives are not being read by the computer to try installing yet again. says no harddrive found.

    Also...

Make sure you update the mobo bios to 1.7

It's a known problem that value/cheap branded powersupply's are causing issues with the AMD64 processors. Abit is trying to say you need at least 24a on the +12v rail. I built a AV8 with 90nm 3500+ using a Thermatake 420w P/S which is only 18a on the +12v rail and runs like a champ.

To re-iterate on the fresh install..... Do a full format in NTSC. Also ensure your disc is clean.
