Not sure ... sounds like something isn't right then ... could be a co-incidence that the HD went at the same time ... but more then likely you have a config issue ...

Are the cables firmly set in the motherboard itself?

The CD-ROM should be attached to the opposite connector on the Motherboard. (I assume you have two of them)

The HD should be set to the Jumper setting as done earlier on it's own cable.

If you only have 1, then the test would be

I'd recheck the connection to the MB if it was working before, I thought you said this was brand new and not connected before.

in the motherboard is it only the IDE wich should be connected to the harddrive or is there something else on the motherboard wich maybe has fallen down or something wich makes the harddisk not spin or being detected

First off lets talk about the IDE cables. The the end with one connector plugs into the motherboard and the end with 2 connectors is for the devices to be installed.

The second thing you need to know is there is a red, blue or black wire on one side or the ribbon cable. This side needs to be connected to pin 1 of the motherboard and pin 1 of the HDD. If you set the cable on backwards it will not work.

Pin one on the HDD is the end twords the power connector on your drive according to the manufacturers website,

Pin one on your motherboard is located twords the bottom, opposite of the boards power connector according to the manufacturers website. Hard to tell from the site but I think its the slot nearest the edge of the board.

Doing a Google search and a little browsing will net you all of this information.

The primary IDE of your motherboard is marked J8H1, This is the slot that the HDD should be connected to. The slot is known to be good because it has detected your cdrw as master on the channell a few posts back.

The cdrw should connect to the other IDE slot marked J7H1 the same way with the color coded side of the ribbon twords the bottom of the board.

A lot of new ribbons are keyed and can only be installed the correct way. I have seen a bunch that could be installed either way.

You should also jumper the drive as Mike has shown you several times with the 2 jumpers. Yes you can use a jumper from another drive if you need to and make sure your holding the drive with the power connector on the left and the IDE connector on the right when looking at the jumpers and setting them up. If you hold the drive upside down and set them they will be wrong.

I would say that the biggest problem your having is the size of the drive coupled with the age of your MB. You said it worked before, not quite sure what you had working exactly so I will assume proper placement of the cables and jumpers should fix the problem.

    fshanda,
You have much patience... I admire that. This was beginning to look like a chat session

I think Mike should get some props too.

I had to take a break for a few hours and come back for round 2.

Kill3r did you get that thing going yet?

    fshanda,
    You are right...

Mike, you also have also displayed much patience. Wonder if Kill3r will post back with his resolution and the outcome.

What was the eventual solution? What was the problem? Backwards cabling?

    Cheers!
