Windows FREEZE

Just tried to install some new parts in my PC with no success.. So I put all of my old parts back in and now when windows boots up, it gets to the desktop and completely freezes.. It shows the windows log in screen and I can click on my Name to log in but once the desktop comes up it freezes.. any ideas why? could it be a hard drive thing? it recognizes my larger hd as the master.. and my smaller drive with windows xp on it as the slave. i just tell the bios to boot to the slave and windows comes up.. however still freezes, i didnt change the jumpers at all and ive tried the ide cable position both ways. im all out of ideas..

what exactly was the problem with the new hardware, if you tried booting an installation of xp with a new motherboard the install may have been corrupted

I believe I damaged the mobo but tried booting with a win xp cd on the new mobo with a new hd. when i put the old stuff back in i was booting my pc exactly the way it was before i tried the new stuff. i also put the windows cd in and i think my cd is messed up too because it gets to the point where it says "starting windows" at the bottom of the blue screen and then just sits there for hours..

Well it finally booted completely.. i really think that the hd with windows on it has a problem.. the second it booted i immediately ran scandisk or checkdisk on the C drive and when my computer restarted and ran it, it froze in the middle of checking the disk for errors. very strange.... i have a brand new hd to replace it but since my windows xp cd is not working i need to hold off and look at some different options..

Run Memtest. Also check your CPU temps. They will cause a freeze like that.
