Annoying problem

Hi

I setup my computer today, downloaded all the drivers up and everything is working ok. I downloaded the latest driver for my Nvidia graphic card etc. I didn't install SP2 because when I try to install it I get a blue screen with some error message. So I will stay with SP1.

My main problem is everytime I click start option in my windows there is this window saying New programes installed in spite of the fact that I didn't install nothing new. What could be the problem and how to solve it?

sounds like the attempted sp2 install went bad and stuff is messed up....

best thing to do is start over...or..try this instead

do a "repair install" using the xp cd.


boot to XP cd...

on first screen hit 'enter'
second screen hit "f8" for license agreement
third screen hit (R) to start the repair install

(dont hit the (R) on the FIRST screen...that is not the right one..do it on the THIRD screen


then afterwards go try to get sp2 again.


since u just got it, it is best to get these things straight right away before you have a lot of data on there etc

To solve this: right-click start button >properties >start menu >customize > advanced and uncheck "highlight newly installed programs" at the top.
