well for days since network install i've been trying to get all the kinks worked out. we 1st the 2nd [wireless] could print but would a couple of weeks to get there. the other nite i did the online chat at linksys and was there tapping my toes why she went through her own thing and not saying what she was trying or anything finally i asked but think she even fell asleep lol we were on there for couple of hours..i just had about 4 questions
anyway the virus scan and firewall was the culprit and said i had to disable them all around to get to print fast.. yeah sure.
well my pc kept lagging and freezing up it was getting worse and worse well disabling those also helped but still had the issue.
well from various forums advice and what i knew i needed to do up upgrade mcafee was ver7 and now out of date wouldnt do updates anymore. zone alarm was always clogging something up here and there so decission to make was keep or toss. and the video driver was only 1 behind and got that was waiting to install.
thought cpu temps might be part of it and was suggested too and the psu.. on checking the cmos thermal temp last week it was i think if i remember ...70F but i have a really hard time remembering things so i could be wrong...seems like it was higher but it still didnt seem to alarm me since amd athlon tbirds run hot.
ok here we go and thank you any of you for reading and taking the time and being patient with me.
ok so got these test result from that org that does virus testing and compares diff companies to determine who can really do what... and somewhere read that bitdefender was really good ...put that on sons pc... noooo results put kaspersky in the winners position bitdefender was i think at 83% or so and kaspersky was 98.x% so that was route i decided to go. oh wait forgot, while i was deciding i put pccillin after i inuninstalled mcafee and zonealarm.
well for some not surprising
reason the settings for the pccillin were just not catching and it didnt install the firewall in initial setup took awhile but finally got it in...and then.. i turned with tilted head and must of become stupid cuz it just went yukky but i thought i had it right and tried the little bit of default settings. well next thing i had no connection between 2 pcs on home network
thought crap!
changed to diff profile then it they connected back. hours later im in a hub checking out some thing
and that was fine the left window minimized and back to explorer and no page happened before but then went back to norm. the other pages to other sites did same thing well i have no way to connect or disconnect manually with the way its setup and was told there wasnt anything i could do about so am auto connect. went back to pccillin and they're lack of options bugged me...
ok didnt like it. finally got to the summary and logs finally to right one and instead the few url/ips i put in for acceptions lists it used it against me and just blocked everything but the button to halt all of network activity wasnt depressed...sooo what the f%$# it had 2 or 3 pages of the sons pc yahoo etc and it blocked them i couldnt get anywhere so i pressed the halt button and pressed it again and it connected back. so pccillin OUT OF THERE!
thats when i went for kaspersky.
uninstalled pccillin installed the kaspersky it rebooted then said something but forgot didnt seem bad or anything and no error messages.
ok then i did the nvidia 66 latest version driver from website....anytime ive done them i just d/l'd and dbl clicked and let it run no-previous probs so i did the same.
NOW pc goes to reboot and comes back in safe mode. dayuuum cut me some freakin slack here
so ok go backwards find prob..in safe mode go into devices and sure of course theres a prob...there were now 2 display adapters current and then a tnt riva 64 one...had that a couple of years ago ..must of missed me to want to come back huh. well i was going to remove from there but wanted to uninstall the nvidia drivers normal way just incase more bricks fell. took awhile [in safe mode
] but finally got it out but still had to remove from there but after that was fine reinstalled the v66 all reads correctly
go to reboot....safe mode.....ok fine then its kaspersky soooo i uninstalled that rebooted ......safe mode. ...getting the smith and wesson out.. try to boot in normal, nope, logged didn't what was failing exept the font files but does that in safe mode if i remember correctly.. tried step by step and i knew not to select the xmouse.vxd one so 1st time i didnt and still no. did it again and said to load the mouse one and wham it reboots and back to menu i bitch slapped it kicked it threatened it pet it and nothing. ooohhh wait when it went to reboot its done this 3x now the lights are going back and forth from 1 cdrw to the other cdrw really fast and i have to hold pwr button in to turn it off.
last part ...i went to cmos to check the temp and it reported 116*F wow i have also read that the internal temps arent that acurate but sheez
ive tried everything i can think of almost grabbed the win cd to reinstall but i'd have to redo everything and i cant remember which way to go anymore. lol
i need to get windows up back up the settings some how then crack it open and see if my cpu is falling off or something...with my luck its probably gone
SO do you think my steps were right wrong way out in left field and what do yal think can be the prolem how can recover ?? just tell me what to do and if i can by god im more than willing
all sillyness aside i really need your help and will wait by the phone even please find it in your heart to help me save my old but only pc i have.
