partition hard drive

hi i want to partition my hard Drive to have dual boot operating system linux and winXp. i have win xp already installed and i don't want to loose my documents, folders.i've tried to use partiotion magic, but in order to use it you have to install boot magic wich i couldn't install because it gave an error, that i shoud have a second partion with fat32 and with at least 700 MB. so any idea how can i solve this problem . or what else should i try to partiotion my hard drive.

what distro of linux are you wanting to install....i know mandrake has something to create a partition from unused space of a windows partition during setup and i'm sure others do too

MEPIS comes with disk partitioning tool and is a live CD that can be installed on your hard drive.
