| Computer detects wrong CPU
Hey, to start off with, my system is:
ABIT NF7-S motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
1 Gb ram
Radeon 9600
I've had my computer for a little over a year now and it started overheating a little while back (although that's not my question here). Now when I boot up my computer, it does the initial check and comes up with an error:
CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU
I hit del to enter setup and at the top of the soft menu page it reads
CPU Name Is AMD Athlon XP
CPU Inernal Frequency 1300 Mhz (100x13.0) (these two lines are grayed out)
CPU Operating Speed 3000+ (which is what it should be)
In Windows XP (I also have Red Hat 9 installed) the system menu tells me the CPU is at 1.29 GHz and MBM tells me that it's at roughly the same (1.26 GHz)
Is there any way to get my system to recognize the right CPU again? |

You may try doing a BIOS flash, that'll usually do the trick. But if I remember correctly (and I probably don't) the NF7-S doesn't support 400MHz FSB which would explain why it's not detecting the 400MHz FSB Athlon XP 3000. I think the NF7-S2 does support 400MHz FSB.
[EDIT]Wait, never mind. The 3000 is 333MHz FSB. I was thinking of the 3200 @ 400MHz FSB, sorry about that. So yeah, try the BIOS flash.[/EDIT]

there should be no need to flash the bios you just need to up the fsb. however there are two versions of the 3000+ one that runs at 11x200 and one that runs 13x166 or something like that so it looks like you need to bump your fsb speeds up to 166 and you'll be fine.

Didn't he say the lines were grayed out, though?
He may have to turn on settings to "Expert" so he can finagle the speeds himself. |

At the top I can't change where it says 100x13. Down below I have the option to change the settings for the fsb but they're already set right (13x166). |

Is there a spot in the advanced settings called "manual" or similar. My asus is like that. At auto you can set fsb and multi all you want but will make no change till its set to manual cpu parmeters. |

Sorry it took so long to post again. My computer is fixed. I should've tried this before but i'm a noob so I didn't. I went to "Load Fail-Safe Defaults" and went from there setting things back up. It works like a charm now! Thanks for your resposes. |
