blue screen log
here is the deal. i built a pc for my roomate a while back. every now and then he will get a BSOD and it will just shutdown/reboot. now it has been a long while since i have done this so i have forgotten, but how to i access the log that is created when i BSOD happens? i have not seen the BSOD personnaly, but i know it happens. my roomate told me that it said something about memory. i am thinking that the stick he has in now (ultra 512mb PC3200) might not be happy with his mobo. perhaps his mobo is just picky about the brand. anyway, anyone know how to get to that system log?

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Under Advanced Tab go down to the Starup/Recovery area and click Settings
From there at the bottom it should give you a box called Dump File and show the path where it writes the files.
This is in XP, Win2k is very similar.

Still helpful
I wanted to thank you for asking this question and for those that contributed in answering. Even though it is many years later it had come in handy for myself. You would think if you tell a person during a memory dump that it was happening that you could tell them where to find the file or what the name would be or even bring up the directory upon reboot.
I had searched for .log but did not think to search for .dmp. And even though it is almost 100mb I appreciate this thread and the helpful attitude that I have noticed here.
Take care,
