| Monitor wont come on but computer is still working
Hi,
Sorry my first post is a tech support question.
My Pc started to freeze up at random moments which meant I had to keep restarting the computer. Some times it would freeze during boot and then the monitor stop coming on at the start of boot. I also noticed the beep that happens when the monitor turns on had stopped. When I switched the computer on and off a few times it used to boot normally with the monitor working but now no matter how many times I switched it on and off it wont come on.
This morning I switched my video card with my friends that works and still the computer did not get past turning the monitor on. So I switched his HD with mine and that didnt work either.
Anyone know what could be wrong?
Kevin

if you have friends with same value as you processor ask if he will let you borrow it then if you replace s processor then it post then it is the processor, you can also check your motherboard for leakage on capacitors |

Thanks for replying, my friend doesnt have the same processor but I will look for a leak. As for the power supply Im starting to think that as well so will follow a test using a Voltmeter I found on another site before trying another one because I've never changed the power supply before and wont know what to do. |

it's a pretty straightforward process to swap a PS...all the connectors are keyed now; not like the days of the AT power supplies. |

You can also use EverestHome to monitor the voltages while the computer is on... if the voltages show up in Everest, you can watch if they're low or if they fluctuate without even taking the side of the computer off... you can also watch the temperatures to see if that has any bearing on the problem... |

I took a good look at the capitors (sp?) as recommend above and found that most of them had leaked so at least I know the problem now |
