    New Rig underperforming

    Old rig:

    Abit Kr7a133 mobo, via kt266a chipset, 1 gig pc2100 ddr and a XP 1800 proc (1.53ghz)
    Visiontek G4 TI-4600 128 meg video card
    60 gig 7200 rpm ata100 hard drive

    New Rig:

    Abit NF8 NForce3 mobo, NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb chipset, 512 megs of pc3200 and an AMD 64 3000 proc
ATI 9550 256 meg video card
    160 gig sata ata150 harddrive

The problem is my old rig ran a little over 10,000 on 3dmark 2001se and my new rig is around 8,500. I downloaded the latest Ati drivers and am well aware that older drivers probably perform a somewhat better benching wise but holy cow what an absymal difference between my four year old computer and my new one. I thought possiby my cpu was not detected properly but Windows states that it is what it is. Both these platforms are running all of the latest Windows updates and I monkeyed with the Agp Aperature rate to unremarkable results.

I have to overlooking something in the bios? I left almost everythng to default or Auto as the system was detecting the hardware correctly and have no clue what the problem is. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

i would test with 3D Mark 2003 instead of the 2001 version... that's about obsolete and i keep comming across these theads ... your not the only one that gets a worse score. Not sure the exact problem, could be DX9 cards don't run the DX8 3d2k1 very well...as your ti4600 (dx8) did...

the 9550's can overclock pretty good as i used to have one.. i think i had it up to 400 core / 270 mem with a Zalman heatpipe and scored 3500 on 3d2k3

Excellent point concerning the directx. I think it is time to run some gaming benchmarks. Thanks.
