I recently made an external hard drive out of an older 4gb laptop hd. Anyways, when i went to format it through windows xp, it did so sucessfully, but did not erase two files/folders. Recycler [which i can manually delete] and a System Volume Information folder which says acess denied when i try to open it. The former file system was fat32, but when i formatted, i used ntfs. Any ideas? Thanks |

i just took an old laptop hard drive that i aquired free at my work, and bought one of these http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...145-329&depa=0
it comes with everything you need, unscrew the side, pop the adapter on, screw it back in, then voila..if you have windows xp, plug it in and youre all set. if you dont it comes with a cd with drivers for os's like 98. |

the two folders are system folders. recylcler is not strictly needed, but i do believe that the ntfs filesystem absolutely requires the system volume information folder. it think it may be linked to journalling of the filesystem. what exactly is your problem with having these folders on the drive. i think windows may recreate the recycler folder, btw. |
