| Need Serious Help!! Mobo Acting Strange
alright, the other day my pc was working fine with no problems at all. then i left my dorm for a couple hours and i left my pc on as usual. when i came back it was off. so i tried turning it back on, but when i did, it came on but my monitor was saying that the monitor is working but check the cables or something. i checked everything but it still wasnt working. so i checked my video card. still not workin. so i added an old pci card that doesnt really work but it at least lets me see my screen when it boots up. i then checked the bios and everything to see if anything was different. no change. then while it was on the bios i switched and made the agp card the default. i then switch my monitor to the apg card and restarted and it worked. so i pc was running and i was still trying to figure out why it cut off by itself. i did virus check, adaware, and windows update and when i had to restart i did and when it turned off it didnt come back on. i went to press the power button and it turned on for about a sec and it went back off. i opened the case and it seemed pretty hot so i let it cool off for awile to see if it comes back on later. i tried later and it came on. i checked the bios and the temp and the motherboard was around 90 something *F and the cpu was 120 to 130*F i dont really know the norm but the cpu doesnt seem normal. i have to fans in. one blowing out the side and one blowing out the back. so i turned it off and unpluged it and had one of my other fans blowin on the inside overnight. so this morning i went to see if it worked and it turned on it seemed fine but then when i got to the desktop it started to make this weird buzzing type sound from the motherboard. i restarted it and the same thing, it didnt com back on. i just wanted to know if i could get some help cuz i dont want to make anything worse. |

That buzzing could be your cpu fan being clogged with dust.
Clean it out with a can of compressed air.
While your in there, dust out the rest of the computer.
The computer turning off after a short time could be a heat related issue. |

are ALL the fans working?
is it clogged up with dust?
does it have adequate clearance around it for airflow?
what is the room temp?
could be power supply going south...
you could keep the side off and position a small fan blowing in... then download and run EverestHome to view your temps and voltage values... |

all the fan are working. none are clogged with dust. i think the grey thing over my cpu might be. i got it off an old pc. it has good airflow. sometimes it get a little hot in my dorm. but i have had my pc running in there since last year. i had a powersupply that came with the new case and i switched it out with another one i had and it has the same problem. i'll try what you said and see what happens. i appreciate it.
Also what would be the normal temps for cpu and mobo |

well common sense says that this is a newer problem.... sounds heat related,
but is this a CPU overheating issue?
or a power supply overheating issue...
by using everest you will be able to narrow that down...
worst case, you spend $30-440 for new PSU
best case you clean it out good and everything goes back to normal...
or you may need a new HSF (heatsink fan) |

alright, i clean everything out. it wasnt much dust. just a liitle in the cpu fan. i waited for a while then i turn it on. i went into the bios and looked and the health monitoring system. when i first looked it said CPU temp= 40*C/104*F and M/B temp= 28*C/82*F. after no less than a minute the CPU went from that to 52*C/125*F. i didnt know if that was normal so i turned it off. is that normal for it to increase to that in that amount of time...? |

What processor is this?
52C isn't something to get worried about. Is the buzzing noise you said you heard still there?
Is it stable while in windows and can you reboot normally? |

yes unless your hitting 80+ you dont have to shut down necessarily...
have you gotten EverestHome yet?
you really need to monitor temps and voltages from within a windows environment , Bios readings are under the best conditions, within windows there is more of a load... |
