have been running win98se and will probably reinstall this. I also have XP pro that I could install, but I'm afraid of what I'll run into with this old machine. I have moved all of my files I wish to save to an external HD. I want the best results possible...what steps do I take next to wipe clean and begin reinstall? It's been a couple of years since I have done a reinstall.
Basically this computer will have word processing, web surfing, and younger kids games installed. Nothing too taxing!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. After making sure that I was booting from the XP cd instead of just running the install from the cd, I was allowed to reformat my partition and do a clean install. So far everything is running smoothly on my 'ole pewter! Thanks again!
Yeah gotta love the partition and format built into XP. I remember the days of botting from floppy into dos, run fdisk, restart, run format, then finally we can browse in the D: and run d:setup.exe
