Nothing particularly special about this card. The 2 things I see that are significant are these:
1) the card has to be compact enough to fit in the space
2) the heatsink side of the card (the left, from the top view) is facing up. The other side holds the heatsink for the CPU, which is a high-end p4.
This may be an engineering flaw, or perhaps not. The card itself is labeled 'A92M', which says it's just an ATI 9200. Interestingly enough again, the ATI 9200 does not have DVI output, but DVI and SVIDEO is all this has.
anywho... As luck would have it, my cat jumped on the 610 the one time the kb / mouse was underneath it. My LCD is dead.
Being the tried and true tech I am, I took a look anyway, and swapping the vid card did not fix the issue.
Odd thing happened though; with the new card (Gigabyte 128m DDR, dunno teh specific card) installed, windows recognized finding new hardware -- a Radeon 9200 LEC series (or something like that).
Dunno what that's down to. I found an LCD on eBay for essentially $35, so I'm not worried about possibly replacing it, although I don't think I will.
Literally, I can just hook it up to a different monitor, and have power. Or a different LCD. Or maybe I'll find what this uses for power, rig something else . . . .
or maybe I'll just rip the guts out and put it in a new custom case, and add an LCD panel to the front and mod it. who knows.
Best of luck to anybody reading this, and remember, fuck Gateway! |

Well, I've had it with mine. The blinking comes and goes and is never consistent nor really associated with any particular activity. Even with the new power supply.
Anyone want it for $300? It's going on Ebay soon....
Thanks for everyone's help with this. |

Well I said all that and now it has worked flawlessly for almost 2 weeks.
I do have a question. If I go in and disconnect the subwoofer and side speakers, will the audio in ports work? I would like to try self-powered external speakers.

One more question. If I want to add another RAM chip, do I have to match what's already in there (512MB) or can I add a 1G chip?
Thanks again. |

Wow..I've never seen this thread before...
I can only answer your last question.
You can put in a 1Gb stick, just make sure it runs at the same speed, with the same CL speed.
Other then that you'll be good. |

as far as the speakers, you can unplug all of the subwoofer & the audio outputs will still work. there won't be any issues.
as far as the ram, make sure you buy quality ram -- stuff with a lifetime warranty, and that you get ddr and not ddr2, and you should be fine.
I really wish this had worked out; the system was (was) so neat. Now it is pieces. |

Here's an update on this nightmare.
I added an external 4-port usb hub (self-powered) and plugged all my usb items to it. I also went in and disconnected the subwoofer and speakers.
Guess what - - - - the damned thing still blinks when it feels like it.
However, one thing I have noticed about the blinking - it is no long a sharp on/off kind of blink. But rather it does sort of a fade away to almost barely visible kind of thing, then comes back on. Is this indicative of a bad inverter?
I swear I hate the idea of putting any more money or time into this computer, but if it is the inverter I suppose I am willing to try to replace it.
Anyone else tried this?
Thanks! |

What external power supplies have folks that found success used? I just bought an Antec 500w (Earthwatts) psu. I had to shave down the 8 pin plug so that it would sit next to the 12 pin plug when inserted into the normal 20 pin plug found on most psus.
First, is having matched up the colors of the wires enough to be confident that this arrangement is safe and functional?
The ethernet light is on, and when I press the power button a red lcd light flashes inside the machine somewhere near the array of card readers, but no boot up, the psu fan doesn't even spin.
Any suggestions? |

I have ordered an ATX Xconnect psu. If you look back in this thread for a post by ONDER, you will see where he successfully used an Xconnect on his 610.
It sounds like you are close on the wiring, but something isn't quite right. I honestly don't know how to direct you, though. Sorry.
As soon as I get the psu, I will post the results. |

Hello,
I'm having issues w/ my 610 and thought you may be able to tell me if this sounds like the psu. In the beginning my issue was the bottom half of the screen was darker than the top half. I assumed it was the LCD inverter, but wanted to test it to be sure. So I disassembled it w/ Onder's instructions, switched the inverters & sure enough the top went darker. So I put it back together, & decided I would order the inverter when I got the extra money. It worked fine Sat, Sun, and yesterday until I put my daughter's video game in. I all of sudden heard like a pop
(like the sound it makes if you turn off the pc w/ the power button, like the LCD turning off or something). The screen was black & I looked on top. The green power light was on, but the blue one wasn't & the pc wasn't responding. So I held down the power button to
turn it off. I opened the back to check all of the wires in the case where the psu is, and everything looked fine. So I put it all back together again. The pc works now, but if
I move it just a little it cuts off again. Any ideas? Do you think I did something to it when I opened it? Or does it sound like the psu? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
