Can we fit any hardrive into our computers (gateway 610) or is it also proprietary? If so, What brand or size should I be looking into?

Hi Ed,
and other people, I am not follow this forum frequently that is why I did not saw your questions. my amail address is onderyilmazseattle@hotmail.com so please ask me for 610 from there.
it is amazing but there is some 15 people that suffers from the same thing at the same time intervals.. So very sad history for 610. it is quite nice device however.
the main manufactury of this device is FIC Company. It is a multi-national company based on a china direction. They are very historic company. They are producing as no name product for all the world. So gateway is just a third part beetween FIC and you. And 610 cames from Gateway so an English company selects other name for it. They are some 5 different names for our 610... So That is why Gateway are not know very well about this device.
The design of the selection of the PSU of this device has an error. They must be correct this selection. But anyway we all suffers from that. But we have the solution.
I have my own web site : www.ferahfeza.com/610X/
please see how you can open the case and sorry for my insuffisant english. You can always ask me for more detail.
Firstly I have found the solution as to connect it to an external PSU like Ultra Xconnect. Ultra has a beatifull extension cable logic. So all of you has right that they are split our well know 20 pin into 2 separet connection. All you have to do is to connect both P1 and P2 to an external 20 pin connection. With a little force you can do that. Use some little force over the plastic connection and use with some little different angle to connect both of them to generic 20 pin connector. P4 is easy.
if any more question you can ask me via mail please. |

I've rebuilt several custom PSU's, I often do this by buying a common full size psu and removing the board and moding the trans' heatsinks or gutting a smaller PS3 PSU. Once you find some good modable psu's you'll find its not so hard. |

Yes this is an option. For that reason I protect still my old PSU. But havent found a good quality PSU board to fit into the old one. I have found a good one in the net this a Shuttle PSU but I havent not see it in a shopping center. Before to buy you must be sure if this will be fit into the old case. Generally they dont give the measuring of their board.
I have also asked two different places to repair it but no way.. They tell me that this will cost high enough. Also my electronic engineers friends says that repairing of the PSU are not so reliable.
The other option is that to ask Delta Electronics Inc. The PSU producer of the 610. I did not try it. Is there any one can try this ? My englisgh is not to good for a good phone call : ) You can find related phone numbers from internet. So share with us the conclusion. Please see all the the information that you need for PSU at the very beginning of this topic. Once I sent you all the information of this particular PSU. |

Hello. I also have a 610XL Media Center that had a power supply failure just after the 1 year warranty ran out. I followed Onder's excellent instructions and replaced the PSU with a 300W PSU I got at Circuit City for $50. Gateway's solution was to charge me $400 to replace it with the same piece of crap.
I am looking into submitting a Consumer complaint with my State Attorney General and would like to know how widespread this problem is. I feel that Gateway sold a product with an obvious design flaw and should issue a recall immediately, and reimburse anyone who has already paid for a service order for this computer. |
