Here is the one I bought: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Antec...oductDetail.do
Antec 300-Watt Power Supply (25300)
I had to run the cables out through the hole where the plug used to go and I had to shave down the sides of the connectors coming out of the computer, since two jacks have to plug into one plug on the PSU. But it was very easy to figure out which goes where because all the wires were color-coded the same. I guess it is an industry standard. The PSU now sits along side the computer.
One other thing to note: This 300W PSU runs much quieter and much cooler. This should help greatly with the reliability of the rest of the components, not to mention getting all of that RF interference away from the I/O connectors.

I am looking into submitting a Consumer complaint with my State Attorney General and would like to know how widespread this problem is. I feel that Gateway sold a product with an obvious design flaw and should issue a recall immediately, and reimburse anyone who has already paid for a service order for this computer. | I am in the same boat - Gateway 610XL Media Center PC. Out of warranty two days ago - DOA today. Ethernet light on back of unit lights up, but computer won't boot. Sounds like this is a "1 year" power supply in this unit. I'm not giving Gateway a cent, that's for sure. No wonder they are so deep in the red. |

Damn.. I am in the same boat as you guys.
Bought the POS and then 2 weeks after warranty expired.. bamm power supply went bad.
I wish I had found this site before...
I had to learn how to open the case and pull out the power supply.
I am contacting my Attorney General's office about this and I will post back.
I had the intern=mittent power off, then no power.. I would unplug the powersupply from the wall.. let it sit and then.. bamm it owuld work for 2-3 days..
all of a sudden it no longer worked..
I built myself a killer machine in the mean time and now have finally gotten back to this POS to fix.
I am currently working on fixing it.. hopefully I can get it done without too much trouble,
peace out..

onder,
Frist of all, thank you very much for your super helpful information
on this forum.
I have the same machine(media center 610) and yeah!!of course(?) the same
bunch of problems.
I believe that many of media center owners have almost same problems caused
by it's sloppy Psu but I have some kinda different problem which also well known
problem with this cursed machine.
"the blinking screen" problem.
I bet this is one of the most well known but not-fixable(by gateway
jerks) problem of this machine.
My machine went the gw service center twice already but still has same screen
blinking problem. The onlything that gateway jerks has done is "Replacing Video
Inverter" which doesn't make any difference.
The onlyway to make my machine "less blinks" is "jiggling it's screen couple of
times".
alright(damn.. this awesome gateway wireless-battery killing keyboard sometimes never allows me to type in capital letters. sorry about this.), my concern and question is,,,
the problem I currently have can be considered as the Psu problem which
most of you guys have?
I bet, it's not video card or video-motherboard cable connection problem cause
it sometimes blinks when hard drive accesses some data or even in normal system idling mode(ie. screen sometines blinks when internet explorer opens new window)
Hope you have some answer for my question.
Again, Thank you very much for your time and effort for all suffering
gateway users.
Regards,
- Jeff -

Jeff,
I am a mechanical Engineering, not Electrical, so am no expert on this, but it may be related to the lousy shielding around the PSU and its cabling. Once I moved the PSU outside of the computer, a lot of these kind of problems went away.
