No wonder they are so deep in the red. | A friends Gateway 610 Media Center just died, a few weeks after warranty. We called Gateway, and they said send it back for $400, plus shipping, & Tax. Of course we just bought a standatd 300 W ATX PSU and ran the connecter thru the hole from the useless 185 W Delta PSU. Everything is fine now. So everyone be aware that Gateway has terrible Customer Service and is only after the Mighty Dollar! Avoid their PC's and complain whenever possible!

Get this...
Even though I did this work myself and never sent my computer in to Gateway, they charged me $184.95 for a computer repair! And, after notifying them a week ago, they still haven't refunded my money.
We need to shout it from the rooftops,"DON'T BUY A GATEWAY!" |

| Screen Blinking Problem Fixed.
Finally, I've just had my 610's blinking Screen Problem fixed.
First of all, Thanks to all member's great advice&concern in this forum.
No doubt, the problem was caused by "Useless" super low power PSU.
What I have done is, instead of replacing it with high power PSU, I've just
disconnected the stupid sub-woofer power cable from my 610's PSU.
Of course, I cannot listen bass sound from my 610 but as you guys already know,
610's sub-woofer is nothing but a power guzzler and using external sub-woofer(even cheapest one in the market)with external power source sounds even better.
I believe the original PSU in 610 that has only 100W is not enough to run bunch of devices like LCD, HDD, DVD ROM, GPU and sub-woofer at the same time so if you have alternative external subwoofer, maybe it can be the simplest, cheapest way to solve this PSU problem. |

Guys,
It took some head banging, but here is how I "fixed" the gateway 610 screen blinking problem. Go into bios...disable spread spectrum.
Disbelieve me now, thank me later.

I would still apply for the warranty on it, some major companies will still honor the warranty if the unit turns up defective a few days after the expiration date.

Hi. Another disgruntled Gateway 610 owner here. I have the exact same problem. My computer died ten days after the warranty expired. I've read through all the posts and I send an email to Onder's contact to buy the PSU directly. I am interested in learning which external PSU's everyone has successfully used to fix this problem and any other suggestions you have. Thanks in advance for your assistance. |

Wow, I have EXACTLY the same problem, except, i have a DK Digital Media Center Exentia. It looks exactly the same as the Gateway and the Elonex. I managed, with great difficulty, to get out the dodgy PSU and am now looking at my options. I think i am going to go for the external PSU, so can any of you tell me:
1. Which PSU u would suggest
2. How to put it in place
I'm not a computer wizz so it would be appriciated if you go nice and slow and explain each bit. Maybe it would be easier to email me. Gimme a bell: mrlukus@hotmail.com.
Thanks guys, i thought i was the only one.

Hi All ,
I have add this small summary for the refreshing what is going on and if there is new kids on the block. So Enjoy it. And Thank you for all, for all your thanks to me And Thank you also all the people who help me to figure out what is going on in their computer for vaious types of error that comes from media center. Now beleive me we are more powerfull from Gateway for 610 ! and for all the other brands that likes to Gateway 610X One more suprise for you I HAVE ALL the BILL OF MATERIAL FOR 610 MEDIA CENTER !!!!! This file is a company propriety file so I cant share it with you but I can extract information if I need for you
Again Thank You and You are Welcome !
Onder Y> JULY 27 SMALL SUMMARY
After 8 months this topic are viewed quite lots by Gateway Media Center Users. And I beleive thata was very usefull all the persons that had same problem. So we are in the same ship I was the first. So I liked to analyse this problem because Gateway lacks of support and now they stopped to produce it.
Now I am feeling very informatif about those machines. The 610's or DK Digital Center Exentia are all the same machines also I beleive there exists as under different brands. So main problem is our PSU. and the othere is LCD Monitor blinking.
For first problem you can buy a new replacement PSU as original for not to loose the originality and portability of the system from appliu@gmail.com a contact from china directly it will cost some 150$. And I advise you if you buy a new orginal PSU try to not connect everything to 610 (USB, Fireware) and also If you could try to disconnect subwoofer cable from the system BECAUSE they CONSUME A LOT POWER from system so THAT MAKES FATIGUE over PSU.I beleive with a new PSU and LESS POWER Process and Device you can use it longtime.
For Second Problem please do this steps : those are the suggestion of the people I did not tried it but they say this will resolve the LCD Monitor problem :
1 - Go to your BIOS and disable Spread Spectrum Feature ??? ( I dont know )
2 - Disconnect the Subwoofer cable from the system, I beleive this is related with something electromagnetic radiation. Because you can try it at your home that if you approach a haut-parleur to you monitor or television it will makes some noise over it. And some people says that this is because decreasing the POWER over the system so that PSU can better feed the monitor ??? ( I dont know )
And again you can always go to my personal website at http://www.ferahfeza.com/610X/ and see how to open 610 Media Center Computer.
I hope that new summary of this topic will help you all
Onder Y.

And for those that do not mind having the PSU sitting outside the machine itself, what model PSU would u suggest, and can u make a brief guild on installing it. Remeber, it isnt like installing a typical PSU due to the strange way the previous PSU was connected up.
Thx for you help...

| Testing the amazing 610 power supply
Has anyone tried, or is anyone willing to try to test their 610 power supply using the paperclip method? You know, where you bend the paperclip into a U-shape, and short the green wire out by connnecting it to a black ground wire?
My power supply went....I think. So, I ordered another one and it worked for about 20 seconds.
I think I have two dead power supplies, but want to make sure it's not the MOBO or something.
If it's the power supplies, I'm going with a third party unit. Anyone have luck finding one that will fit in the case? Thanks! |
