| Help with killdisk booting
I have windows xp and downloaded the killdisk onto a bootable floppy. I even did it on to different disks to make sure I was doing it right and when I put the disk in and start my pc it starts up normally and doesn't run killdisk. I'm not sure what the problem is here or if I'm doing something wrong. |

You might have to go into your BIOS during the bootup and change the drive load selection. Nowadays it seems alot of computers just do the CDROM then the HDD, they skip the floppy all togther.
The boot selection is usually under the first window or two in your BIOS config screen. What kinda BIOS do you have? Do you know? We can prob give you better instructions once we know that.

Undeadlord is right on. In BIOS, usually second screen, you'll see where you can set the boot order of the various drives (HD, floppy, optical). Set floppy to first boot device. Further down you may see a BIOS entry something like "Seek Floppy on Boot" or "Seek Boot Floppy"... enable that too.

Well I actually tried to see if I could change the priority to the floppy but when I put in the disk and boot up nothing happens, so I hit f1 I think and all it gives me are how do you want to load windows. My options are either safe mode, safe mode with networking, or load normally I believe. So I can't find where the hell the priority of things is supposed to be... |

Sixpac_XP beat me to it! Sounds like you're not able to enter BIOS. Different brands use different key(s). Common ways are to hit Del, or F1, or F10, or something else... sometimes it's a combination of two keys. You need hit the key right as you see any text (like processor info, or amount of ram, etc.) appear on the screen during Boot up. Heck, hit it repeatedly to make sure you catch it at the right time. |

The model # is N30W. I'm really not sure what kind it is but is says APT on the top. It came with windows 98 I think but I reloaded it a long time ago with XP and cleared off the 98. |

Best thing to do is power down the system and pop open the case ... there should be a make and model number on the motherboard.
post it here.. |

Ya man I hit escape f1-f10 and pretty much any key I thought would work and the only one that does is the f1 but it only gives me those three options. This is on my laptop if I didn't already mention that. The only words when it starts is the windows screen and then it signs in. |

OK. I must be an idiot because I hit f1 again after I rebooted and somehow it got into the bios. I changed the floppy to primary and killdisk worked like a charm. Freshly reloaded xp is nice. Now time to do the other computer. Aren't viruses fun. |
