Help me with mobo!
I baught a new mobo from newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...131-524&depa=1
I hooked everything up and everything looked fine. The bios was coming up great and everything but then I tried to boot from my hard drive and it would just restart. I tried another one of my hard drives and it did the same thing. One time the mobo wouldn't even start up but I waited and then it worked. What can I do to fix the problem. All Saxes want is peace.

try removing the extra's from the case (high powered graphics cards..extra cd rom drives..stuff like that) how big is u'r psu? also, if you can boot from a cd try running memtest. you might also want to go into the bios and load fail safe defaults..see if that helps

Oh yeah, I tried booting from a CD and it restarted. I am running on a 420 Watt Power Supply and have 4 case fans, one hard drive, an old PCI VGA card, and a DVD Burner plugged into it. Do you think that it just isn't getting enough power.

quick question... you got a new MB... are you trying to run a HD that already has an operating system on it with your old MB drivers...?
if it's a new MB, i would suggest a format of your HD and reinstall your operating system along with the new MB drivers....

420 watt power supply is plenty big enough assuming it is running ok. What you have would run on a 300 watt. And what sweeper2 said.

March 28th, 2005, 06:11 PM #6I think you could be right with the mobo drivers. Can't I just install the new drivers on to my hard drive without having to format it?

hmmm, you could try, but you might run into problems with conflicts with the old drivers...and the new ones... but if your HD won't even boot up, looks to me like there is already a compatability issue ..
I would suggest a clean format and fresh install and then install your MB drivers etc...

You might be able to get away with using your current Windows if you do a repair from the WinXP cd but as sweeper2 said it would be best to do a totally new installation.

Once I format it should I plug my formatted hard drive into my new mobo and try installing XP on it with a bootable XP CD that I have?

March 28th, 2005, 06:25 PM #15On which one the old one or the new one? Well I guess I can only do it on the old one because I tried booting from the CD and and it wouldn't on the new one.

not quite sure..but if it's restarting while booting from the cd it's almost deffinately not the windows drivers. try completely unplugging the harddrive from the computer (well..just pull the ide cable, the power can stay if u wanna leave it) and boot from a cd taht way...see if it'll boot from a cd now. could be a defective mobo
instead of using the button on the front of the computer, take the connectors of the mobo and just use a paperclip to short the two power pins
