Have you installed the audio drivers? Even though the device manager is not showing any conflicts it sounds like a driver issue. Another thought is it is disabled in the BIOS if it is on board sound, but that wouldnt explain why it worked on 98. |

legacy drivers?
sounds to me like XP installed default drivers because it couldn't detect your equipment.
What type of sound/video cards do you have?
Have you tried installing the drivers from the manufacturer? |

If it worked in win98, your BIOS settings shouldn't be at fault.
Seriously get the drivers from the manufacturer of your motherboard for the onboard and try them.

Stop SHOUTING, we hear you despite your lack of sound
Looks like you got a non-plug&play ISA sound card there. http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/drivers.shtm
With Windows XP, you'll have to use the "Add new Hardware" wizard, pick the driver manually, let it install, and reboot. And you'll have to figure out what resource settings (I/O, DMA, IRQ) the sound card is configured to. |
