| mouse jumps to start automatically
Ok....wierd problem. some times on a customers computer the mouse goes crazy!! When it does, i check control panel and there is a driver for a hid complient component. When i remove that it all returns to normal. it's xp pro sp2 and the mouse is a usb mouse. Sometimes, however, a simple restart fixes it...other times it dosen't...and it requires 5 or 10 restarts to get it working again (he fixes with restart, i fix by removing the hid complient device!). my way always works..as soon as i remove that, it's fixed. What happens is you move the mouse and it moves fine but every second it pops right back to the start button. i'll move the mouse up and it'll move up 2 inches, then magically appear at the start button...go up another few inches and then pop back again. I know it's an athlon 64 bit processor but I can't tell you much more other than that! thanks for any help you can provide. |

1) is this an IR mouse?
2) does he have the proper mouse pad for it?
If I use my Logitech IR mouse on my desk with no pad, it will do what you're describing.
Just sounds so ridiculous that 10 restarts fixes it..like 1 or even 2 or 3 wouldn't be enough. |

some times one restart will fix it...if it dosen't he will sit there jsut restarting the computer over and over again until the problem goes away (lol....crazy). anyways....i just meant sometime it takes over 10 restarts to get the problem to go away. he's got some crazy trick where he restarts..and when windows is booting up he shuts it down with the power switch...then starts it and that usually fixes it...i told him that's not a good idea but he wasn't interested....lmao. it's a usb mouse with a cable (not wireless) i don't think. it is a laser mouse on a regular old mouse pad i believe. The device does install itself..i happened one time when i was using it...all of a sudden it just went crazy..i had to do everything via keyboard and then uninstall the hid complient device and it just went back to normal. I'll try different drivers, hopefully that'll fix it. I've only been there once and that was over a month ago...he's finally back and I will be going back to finish the job! |

That could be your problem...I had the same exact problem until I got a mouse pad suited for a laser mouse. Basically, if the laser is reflected back up into the mouse at all, it can get distorted and cease to work correctly, which can "shoot" your pointer in unintended directions.

i'm not saying i don't believe you. i'm just not at the computer to try anything. also it's very exact about where the mouse goes...it's not like it's just going off randomly....it goes back to an exact, precise point every time. what do I have to look for so that a mouse pad will work correctly with a laser mouse? I had no idea it mattered!
/edit btw..i didn't know if ir meant wireless or laser...so that's why i said it was a regular corded laser mouse i still don't know what ir means but i'm assuming it means laser...lol |

Hehe, yeah I mant optical laser.
I shouldn't have thrown IR in there as that would indicate a wireless mouse...my bad!
My mouse was advertised as not needing a mouse pad, but I certainly do...my Steelers mouse pad works perfectly!
If you look in your local computer stores (or Walmart), you will see that certain mouse pads are designed for optical mice rather than the basic mouseball type. |
