| FDC Failure, Stuck in Boot Loop
Working on a ECS K7S5A, Athlon XP 1800+
Recently the onboard LAN stopped working. When I restarted the computer I now get "FDC Failure Press F1 to resume." When I press F1 it loops me back to the bios loading screen and back to the error. I can't get it to load Windows now. I tried disabling FDC in the bios and that did not help. I am under the assumption that FDC is the floppy disk controller. If I unplug the floppy drive will that get me past the error? The fact that the LAN stopped working and I am getting this error at the same time seems to indicate that maybe the motherboard is just crapping out or is there some other explanation? Thanks for any help you can give.

Disable the floppy in the bios then remove the 34 pin ribbon and power cables. That will take the floppy drive out of the picture. |

From what I described does it sound like the motherboard is just dying or would something else cause all these problems at once? |

Its possible the motherboard is on its way out.
Is the BIOS retaining its settings? Is it possible the CMOS battery is low? Does the fan on the power supply spin when you power on the pc? If you have a cooling fan on the cpu, is it spinning?
I don't like scrapping anything unless I know for sure its bad. |

Yeah. Try testing with other PSU also.
But it does sound like the motherboard is on its way out.
