| laptop - no power, no light, no anything
my compaq presario used to be touchy about powering up, I had to wiggle the cord to get the power light to light up but it eventually did. Some days it would work, sometimes I would have to leave it alone for a few days before I could get any power. Now when I plug in the cord nothing at all happens, there is no power light either. I bought a new cord and still nothing happens. Can someone please tell me what the problem is? I tried taking it apart to see if something was loose but if there was something loose I didn't notice it.

Well, since it's a Compaq, the best thing to do is call Tech Support because something is probably internally wrong with the computer, and you'll have to get it replaced. If you have an expired warranty *shrugs*, don't buy compaq lol.

Likely there is a broken or cold solder joint at the power adapters connection to the motherboard or wherever it is connected. I've never had a laptop open so I can't answer definitively. A good repair shop should be able to locate the problem and suggest a fix.

This reminds me of a problem I had with my Gateway laptop (which died not more than a year after I had bought it).
There's a pin that the cable connects to when you plug it inside the laptop; look inside there and check to see if the pin is broken. My pin broke twice in the year that I had it. The first time I had it replaced but the second time it broke, I was fed up and just fixed it with some duct tape and a makeshift splint. Never gave me problems afterwards.
You did say you opened it up though and checked to see if anything was loose; that included the pin right?
Best bet is to just take it to a repair shop. |

Well as you kept wiggling the power connector, chances are that it came loose from the mainboard. Repair requires disassembly of the machine - return to vendor. |
