Ive got a 10gb hard drive in a spare computer that i was using for linux (9gb primary 500mb swap). I had suse 9.1 installing and it installed GRUB as the bootloader on the master boot record (mbr) which causes the system to not boot properly and hangs before loading an OS. I was told to delete the partitions using a program called 'bootit ng' and so i deleted the 9gb partition and it wouldnt let me delete the 500mb partition. So i used a win98 boot disk to get to fdisk and i deleted the NON-DOS 500mb partition that was left, and went to create a new one (getting the whole 9.5gb as a primary dos), and the maximum capacity was 500mb, the same size and the partition i deleted with fdisk.
Time line:
-Dos formatted 10gb hard drive
-install suse 9.1 (grub accidently installs on MBR)
-delete partitions in fdisk (grub STILL mbr)
-install slackware 9 (9gb partition and 500mb swap)
-slackware wont boot because of GRUB hanging
-run 'bootit ng' and delete 9.5gb partition successfully but unable to delete 500mb swap
-get to command promt from win98 bootdisk
-run "fdisk /mbr"
-delete 500mb partition in fdisk
-restart and boot to command on bootdisk
-fdisk: create primary partition, only creates 500mb.
I tried using 'bootit ng' to create the 9gb partition again with no luck, and now im stuck. I looked for a solution online because i can recall seeing something similiar on another forum, but i couldnt remember where.
I need help please. Any ideas?
