Ok I thought i saw a post similar to this but the solution does not work for me....
I have a Dell Inspiron 1100....It's running True Color Resolution of 1024X768....Here's my problem....whenever I switch it to 800X600 it should get bigger but doesn't....As a matter of fact I get a black border of 2-3 inches of black all around the screen like a frame....I noticed it first in MSN Messenger in a video conversation....On my desktop when I go to fullscreen in messenger it actually uses the whole screen....and when I switch it to 800X600 I get a magnefied, fullscreen picture the way it should be....So what is wrong with my laptop....I had the same problem with Media player but fixed that in it's own options....I formated and reinstalled the drivers but still no Good ....PLEASE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE HELP.....What do I do???
I read something on the net about changing some Dos parameter....but that sounds complicated and unsure.... |

the black boarder is due to the monitor. When u change resolution and then u get the black boarder, adjust ur monitor settings and stretch the picture so that there will be no more boarder.

That's probably your answer. You adjust it using the buttons on the front of the monitor.

Laptops have a native resolution. They are not CRT’s and do not act like CRTs. If you want the 800*600 resolution, then you will have to deal with the black border, as you are running out of native resolution. For example put the resolution up to 1280*1024 and you will have to scroll with your mouse to see the entire screen.
You are out of luck.

They don't tell you that before you buy the thing huh....I could have sworn that there was a way to do it....maybe not.....I originally noticed it when trying to go to full screen on my messenger 7.0 ....In a video conference....that's when i noticed the black frame....When I originally had that same problem with Windows Media Player....during a song they show you the visualizations....and if you press alt+enter then you go to full screen....Well when I saw the black border on that I had to fix it....I wouldn't understand why it wouldn't show it fullscreen....But inside the Media Player settings....under the properties button of some visualizations....they had a fullscreen setting....it was set to 800X600....when I changed it to 1024X768 then everything was fine.....Is there a setting on Messenger like that cause I couldn't find it.....I guess I will have to deal with everything else not being fullscreen |

once you have that black border there is no way to stretch something like messenger out that far etc....the black border is it

I don't know if this will work, but have you tried going into Display Properties, and selecting Settings..Advanced...and look for screen sizing, or something like that..sometimes, you will have a selector, to resize your screen through the video card's software.
