How to make external drives secure?

I need help, actually i have an external Hard Disk(80GB) with three partitions....I want to set some password on that so that if any one else connect that HD on some computer, he should not see the contaents files and folder of the HD...

if any one know this please let me know

I also have the same concern (except with a 160 GB external Hard Drive). is there a cheap or free program that i can get to password protect the drive? i would like it to be the same idea as signing onto windows (ie. typing the passwrod once and having acces until i unplug the drive). thanks
