I have checked the power supply, connections, hibernation, ran virus and adware-spyware programs..nothing comes up. I have run the everest program..it found pc temp and power supply normal. security events find nothing. Application events find nothing. I'm all out of ideas. Please help.

Are these shut downs random or consistently predictable?

No blue screen or anything? Just completely powers off?
You might want to open up the case and take a thorough look at everything and make sure there are no obvious problems. Pay special attention to the capacitors on the motherboard.
Make sure you check the power supply stuff when the computer is under full load if possible too. Just watching it in idling in windows doesn't give you a good indication of stability.

Check your BIOS and see if you have a Temp shutdown option. You might be exceeding it. By default mine is 64º C

cpu temp is running a little high and that is most likely why it is shutting down.
And that is the idle temp too so I am sure that is what the problem is.
Time to invest in some thermal compund it looks like.

cunokyle.... he was posting that as an example. Its not the thread starter's temp.
-

actually 64 is the threadstarters temp...
but in no way is 64 too high...
NO, its not a good temp, but certainly not one to be worried about...
Even allowing + or - 10 degees its not a problem...
I doubt the shutdown temp is set to the 60's...
go into the bios and see what and if its set to...

My system shuts down when my temp hits 65*
I am just going from my own personal experience. I have never had a computer have an idle temp that was so high.

Would this help I searched for temperature in windows help and support. Coincidentally, I did a fresh install of windows xp on 4/26/00. So maybe this AMD PowerNow!! might work..if my system supports it?
If you are using an AMD PowerNow!-enabled system and you reinstall Windows XP, you must download the latest Microsoft Processor driver from Windows Update to enable AMD PowerNow!. The default Processor driver (Processr.sys) installed with Windows XP does not enable AMD PowerNow!. If you experience symptoms such as decreased battery life or increased processor temperatures, this may indicate that you must update the Processor driver on the system. Also note that when you install SP1 for Windows XP, this does not switch the Processor drivers even though there is an updated driver in the service pack.

Your fan for your processor, is it on the processor? And/or do you think it's able to handle it?
Feeling so lost and betrayed, why does this happen to me all the time, stuck in a place where I can't escape.

4GB is about the minimum you want for good performance. I kicked up to 8 and I noticed the difference. Especially in games.
