cant you connect two wifi laptops to each other?
surely you dont have to have an access point or router PC network already set up to get two laptops to talk to each other..
cant they connect directly, thus making their own network?
i have them set up for ad-hoc comp to comp...

Yes you can. You'll need to change your wifi network configuration from "infrastructure" to "ad-hoc" (somtimes called "peer-to-peer").

yeah, they already are both on ad-hoc...
neither are seeing any wifi...

ive got an acer IPN2220 wifi card built in, and its using XP..
actually the other laptop is centrino..
weve both setup the connect to any found network settings, im just not sure there are any other settings that would do anything...
