I'm guessing the problem might be a non-boot floppy disk being left in the drive. Ya think?

Nevermind, it's been too long since I've even messed with a floppy drive. It would give a different error.

You say the floppy drive is working ok. Are you sure of that? Have you tested writing/reading entire disks?
