Get this..
Just reinstalled my system, logged onto my domain at home, and right clicked, created new text document on desktop....
Ok fine, that's totally normal.
I didn't enter anything into the text document, but I renamed it to .exe and it asked if I wanted to change it, blah blah blah so I said yeah.
Now guess what?
I can't even delete the file. Even though there's NOTHING IN IT.
Here's the error:
---------------------------
Error Deleting File or Folder
---------------------------
Cannot delete New Te1xt Document: It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
And just to be certain it wans't me going crazy, I made another two text documents, and renamed them both to .exe
now I've got three .exe files on my desktop that I can't delete.
OH-MY-SERIOUSLY-GOD-WHAT-THE-F%!K? I'm so annoyed...
Pardon ze French.
Help!
Virus' are not an issue.

Reminds me of this XP annoyance : whenever you click once on a video file to delete it, you must wait for the system to build up the preview, lenght, bitrate, etc..., if you hit DEL before it finishes, it shows the same message as you mentioned.
Is there a link between those 2 cases ? |

I just tried the same thing and had no problem deleting the file. Personally, I love XP. I'm running XP Pro on my fully loaded P4. It's not perfect, but it causes me no grief. Big improvement over previous Window versions.

You say you logged on to your "domain" at home. How did you logon? When you boot in safe mode what account did you logon with.
If you logged off and logged on as a different user with admin privledges you probably could delete it. |

Yes it's a legit version of XP.
I logged onto my Domain using my user account that is set to Domain Administrator.
When I logged on using safe mode, I didn't install networking services so had to log on using the local Administrator account. |
