| Dvd Shrink question?
I use dvd shrink to back up my dvds. Once I open the disk in the Audio section it commonly says AC3 5.1 & DTS 5.1
What is the difference. I have a 5.1 dolby digital home theater so do i need the dts file to be broadcasted in 5.1? |

I always uncheck everything but 5.1, never had a problem even with my ProLogic system.
If you don't have a DTS player/reciever, it won't matter anyhow.
DTS is similar to Dolby 5.1, another system for it.

AC3=Dolby Digital=Dolby 5.1
DTS=Another 5.1 system
Basically, it is like AMD & Intel. They are the same but different. Some people prefer one or the other, but most cant tell the difference. |

DTS= Digital Theatre Sound (I think). It didn't go over as big as 5.1. To me, it has more punch in background sounds. The D-Day beach landing in "Saving Private Ryan" is a good example. It also depends on your sound system. If you have a good 6 speaker sound system with properly placed speakers, you can really hear the difference, but if you using headphones or just 2 speakers, you won't hear that much of a difference.

The newest is 6.1 (actually 7 channels), the .1 is the subwoofer in both cases. 5.1 is actually 6 channels. ProLogic is 4 channels. |

There are 7.1 recievers out there but no movies are broadcasted in that format. |
