| IBM thinkpad 760el wont take os after hdd wipe
Hello folks, i need some help. I have an Ibm thinkpad 760el that had win95 working on it, i decided i would put 98 on it so i wiped the hard drive and went to install the full version of 98 and at power up it checks memory then proceeds to tell me i have an invalad system disk replace and hit any key. so how bad did i mess it up? can anyone help me get it running again? what do i do? |

welcome to the forum!
you havent messed it up at all, lol
sounds like it just isnt set to boot off of the CD...so it is trying to boot off of the blank hard drive
boot into the bios and check the "boot order"....set it to boot off of the cd first
usually you have to hit the del button to get into the bios..but sometimes it is f2

is bios the correct term? i mean it is IBM it comes up with some utilities i think is what it would be, where you can do a systems check. |

well it may say "setup"...like on Dells it says "press f2 to enter setup"
Bios is the technical term..but it may say "setup" or some other term |

what you can do is try this instead
get a boot floppy from www.bootdisk.com like this one http://1gighost.net/randyboy/boot98sc.exe
put the win98 cd in the cdrom....and put the floppy in...then it will probably boot to the floppy and you can do the install from there
it will boot to a flashing a:> so type in d: then type in setup
or get the floppy and boot to it and report back and we can tell you what to do |

well it is probably under "config"
then you would just look for startup order or whatever
see if there is an option for booting from cdrom first
if not then you will have to do the floppy option as I described |
