Hello All,
I have an HP NX 5000 notebook. It does not have a PS/2 port on it. Since it only has 2 usb ports, and an serial port. I bought a serial port converter from pc connecetion.
The mouse gets power (ie. little light blinks), but is not seen by Win XP.
I think that I have to enable the PS/2 drivers. There is not a spot in the bios for it though.
Any ideas??

Not all PS2 mice can actually run on a legacy serial port. Those that do would be detected (and usually came with the adapter right there in the box).
If your mouse happens to have survived this stunt, get an active (!) USB-PS2 controller dongle, and plug your mouse there.
New USB mice are cheaper, though. |

As PM said. Unless the capability is built into the mouse or keyboard, they will usually not work on other than the type of port they were designed for. So you will have to use a PS/2 to USB adapter. They usually come with support for both a mouse and a keyboard on the same adapter. There are what look like passive PS/2 to USB adapters available out there, but those are often "infinite profit" items (items left over from keyboards/mice where they didn't use them - anything divided by 0 is infinite) that won't work on devices that don't already have the circuitry in them for detecting what they are plugged into and switching gears to suit.
..The geeks have a couple of these items on this page: http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=CBL but IDK if one is better than the other. Also check on SVC.com as some small orders can be sent first class mail sans insurance (you assume shipping risks) to save a bunch on shipping.
