How do I get my attachments to open up in their native applications rather than within the web browser? This is on WinXp SP2. Thanks. |

Here's some more details. We are using Lotus Notes web client here. Usually when you click on an attachment it'll open up in the native application but somehow on this computer it decides to open up within the web brower (IE 6). Sort of like if you click on a pdf file in a link it'll open up within the web browser. Just wondering if theres' an option somewhere to change that. |

Check the browser settings on that computer.

On that computer, that file name extension is associated with IE...you can re associate that extension with another application that will open it.
I would not know how to tell you how to do this...sometimes I have a heck of a time re associating something like this myself...but, the bottom lines is..Windows has been "programmed" to associate that type file with IE, and if the "native application" is on that computer, you can re associate that file type to open it.

Are you talking about the "Open with" option in the context menu? I did that. The thing is documents that are on the computer open up correctly, and I looked through IE settings and not finding anything.

Windows Key + E to open up explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types Tab > Scroll down to PDF (the case your provided you can of course do this with any extension) > Change to adobe acrobat if IE is listed.
Hope that helps

It's set to the correct programs already. I re-associated just for the heck of it and it's still the same thing.
edit: I might have found the problem. Lotus notes needs to install some activeX control, however it doesn't stick if I let it install. It keeps on telling me that I need to install it everytime I restart IE. How do I get around this. This is WinXP Pro SP2.
nevermind, I had to lower the IE security setting in order for the install to stick. Thanks all.
