Odd SATA HDD Activity

HI,

I've just built the following system:

Antec case with 350W Smartpower PSU
Asus A8V m/b
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice core
2x512Mb Crucial RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
Maxtor 120Gb SATA HDD (6Y120M0)

Once I've installed Windows XP Pro the HDD activity light pulses on and off constantly.

I've only built one other system with a SATA drive, and it didn't do that (although it was a Seagate).

Has anyone else encountered this, and have any comments/solutions to stop it?

i have 2 160 gb sata drives and mine blink not all the time but do have moments of activity. so if system is clean i would'nt worry

Thanks for the responses, the system seems okay, so I'll just wait and see what happens.

(no spyware, this occurs before I connect it)

Maybe try running a system diagnostic program like http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...d,25444,00.asp (PCWizard). Also, considering it's a new build, there's a chance you got the HDD LED wire from the case to the mobo plugged in the wrong place when you were putting it together.
