PC won't boot, stuck at "HP Invent" screen
Hello,
Yesterday there was a bad storm in my area, and my wife didn't think to turn the PC off. Now when I try to boot up, it gets stuck at the "HP Invent" screen and won't go any further. I'm not able to get into the BIOS or HP's system restore utility.
I have an Athlon 64 3400+ processor, and am running Windows XP.
I'm afraid that it's the motherboard or processor...
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

Get a divorce! If that woman doesn't think of your poor computer during storms...

Try clearing your cmos first...look for a 'clear cmos' jumper on your motherboard or remove the battery for a while with the ATX power supply disconnected from your board.

Thanks for the speedy and original response, Mister Man!

Didn't you see the part where he said "worked like a charm"?

Good one!
I hate grits!
Wonder if he'll stick around...so many people get their answers and never post again. Maybe he'll send me a Christmas card or something.
[shrug]
Keeping on topic, I've read that sometimes the cmos battery needs to be removed for hours on end before it is cleared.

Just think of my first response as a backup.

infamous hp invent screen
HP pavillion media edition a6000 PC..initially the problem started after removing my harddrive in order to replace temporarily with another HD to back up...none the less i otped to not put the other drive in my computer and put the original HD back in the way it was. after attempting to reboot i get no startup. ive let the computer sit for about 6 months due to having several other capable machines....I have recently attempted a trouble shoot including unplugging every USB supply from MB, reseting CMOS via JUMPER as well as replacing the battery (leaving it out for entire night.) removing video card and additional ram restoring factory hardware set. added a pci card for fresh USB 2 ports and nothing, moved on to attempting to use serial keyboard and mouse but with no results from any of the above. im usually very adept with troubleshooting and cannot come up with anything whatsoever here.
