Monitor problem

Alright, I'm helping someone out with a monitor problem, but I'm stumped.

Their monitor displays an error message that says to make sure all the cables are plugged in. Well, they all are and everything's setup correctly. We've tried turning the computer off and on again, but that didn't work.

There was a problem exactly like this that I had at a friends house years ago that I was trying to fix. The thing just wouldn't go and out of nowhere the monitor just started working again.

Hopefully someone will provide a fix so that one is not randomly discovered.

what are the computer specs,
that may not be the monitor,

it could be video card

Well, his computer was working fine before. He just removed the video card and cleaned the connecting bits and put it back in and the monitor worked fine.

Still seems pretty random for it to work at one point then need a cleaning without being touched the next.

do it again, take it out,

and put it back in,

make sure it's in all the way

I agree with cmp, it sounds like you did something to the video card.
