umm how do i update my bios? i run a K8V - SE Deluxe ASUS socket 754 board, and i downloaded the current stable version of the BIOS off of their site. (version 1006).
so im doing this to fix a ton of windows errors, and installation errors of all types of games etc. Ive done everything to try and fix them, ive swapped out every part of my rig that could possibly be causing a problem, and ive reinstalled windows countless times, and ive installed different copies of windows. I get roughly the same errors every time, so im thinking (im a real noob) that i should upgrade my horribly out of date bios... lol
i just dont know how. its a strange file and windows has no idea how to open it, so could someone give me a couple pointers? thanks.

the bios update should be in a .bin file
In the old days to update a bios you had to boot the machine to an Dos enviroment then run a program to update the bios. Now you can update the bios through windows, just go to Asus website and go to the tools/software section and download the bios updater. Painless way of updating the bios. (Just make sure you use the right bios and you dont power down the machine when its updating or you will have a nice paperweight till you get a new bios) |

i'm running 1002 bios on a k8v deluxe with no problems.
maybe if you post some of your error messages?
and the rest of your specs.
clearing the cmos can sometimes resolve problems too............ |

this bios is a .006 file... i have no idea what to do with it. My error messages are mostly when installing things. i get numerous CRC errors when installing some games, and other times i get Windows Temp install errors, the list is huge. sometimes my machine randomly crashes. a lot of it is unexplainable. but ive swapped IDE cables, and CD drives, and Hard Drives, and windows disks, ive done everything thinkable. it has to be the bios... |

Install errors? Doesn't sound like a bios to me. Download memtest86 and Western Digitals diagnostic utility and check your memory and hard drive for problems. Just my .02 cents. |

alright, ive tried to run memtest and the other utilities, and i get an error running memtest, and my hard drive is fine. i used the "ASUS BIOS updater utility" that came with my mobo CD, and i updated my bios. now things just get bad... so my computer restarts, and some things have changed, its using a different controler to detect my hard drive, and it doesnt detect it. also, it says "CMOS checksum bad" BIOS not installed. then i can either press "F1 to load setup" or "F2 to load default values and continue anyway" F2 doesnt even work at all, ive pressed it a million times. and F1 takes me to the standard BIOS that ive seen before, HOWEVER, i can move the arrows up and down and around, but it only lasts about 10 seconds, then the entire thing freezes and i cant select anything!! i fear that i have done something seriously wrong, or maybe my motherboard is just screwed... im thinking about getting a new one with some PCI express slots anyway... someone please help
by the way, i live in Falmouth Massachusetts if anyone is a genius with computers and is in the area, i WILL PAY A LOT to get my machine running properly, with all games installed. ARGH help!!! |

Swap out your ram with another stick, and then run memtest on the new stick. This is why your getting errors installing things. If the new stick tests out good, you may be able to just boot your computer and things may be normal. However, since you tried to update your bios, you may need to try a reflash after you install the new memory. |

its 2 512 sticks of pqi ddr. every time the computer loads it scans it and says 1024mb ok. ill try a swap, since i havent done that yet, but although that may be my problem, i think my BIOS is pretty screwed anyway. thanks a lot though, hope it works. |

As a last resort you may try writing "zero's" to the drive, reformatting and reinstalling Windows. But, you lose ALL your data, so backup your hard drive first. I dont think the problem is the BIOS, although now that you have flashed to a newer version it may have fubarred up.
I also have the K8V SE Deluxe MoBo with a AMD64 Athlon 3200+
