| antec truepower II vs truepower I ???
I was wondering if any of you all out there had one of these types of power supplies. I'm particularly interested in the TPII which has a single 120mm fan on the top(or bottom) of the PSU... The case I'm gonng put this in doesn't have a vent on the top, so I'd probably have to face it down into the computer, but this seems sort of silly to me...
I guess I'm just curious if any of you have one of the TPII models and what your experiences have been with the single large fan.
thanks,

The difference with the two is that TPII is ATX 2.0 compatible, while the TPI isn't [in other words, one has a 20-pin connecter, the other doesn't]. Other than that, not much.
It doesn't matter what direction you put it, as long as the screws match up and the fan brings air out (or in, I forgot). |

the ATX 2.0 connector is the key difference....
but the concern is whether the fan blow hot air into the case ... directly down on the CPU probably. - so i'm curious what people's experiences have been with this.

You mean whether it is an exhaust or intake? Doesn't say at Antec, but you could call them, as a last resort. |

The fan on the PSU is an exhaust fan.
I recently replaced my TPl with a TPll. While I have read articles that say the second fan doesn't help since I put the TPll in my system has run 1-2° C warmer.
Other differences in the two, beside being ATX 2.0, are the split 12v rail (19 amp each) and the SATA connectors (4).
What I don't like about the TPll is the control panel that sits in the 5.25 inch bay.
The old one had recessed adjustment controls that you had to use a plastic tool to adjust. The new one has garish blue lights (4) on it and the adjusters are over the lights. It is rather easy to accidently hit the adjusters and mess up your voltage settings. I don't care for the lights either. |

No one mentioned that the TP II has a single 120mm fan, versus the other TruePower units with dual 80's. |

the whole fan part of this is actually my biggest concern... if the TPII has only a single fan on it, then it has to be pulling cool air from outside the case, across the PSU, and then blowing it into the case (unless you have a vent on the top of you case)
JARHEAD - I presume that you have the TPII- true control 550 --- is that correct? I won't need that much power, or the ability to adjust the individual rails, so I'm looking at a TPII-430 or 480

The fan blows inward so it will suck the air inside the case to itself and let it out at the back (look at the fins). Since the fan is big enough, there is no need for a second fan at the back. I hope you already figured that out, but if not, I hope this helps. |

All Power Supplies with the larger 120mm fan positioned at the bottom of the PSU when installed, pulls air from the case through the unit and out the back...
None draw air from the outside...
The larger fan blows more air and runs quieter...
Out of curiousity, what are the prices on these units? |
