XP Home change to XP Pro : is it OK?

I have a notebook, IBM Thinkpad R51, that runs XP Home.

Something went wrong with my notebook, the OS runs quite odd like the Isass.exe program (ctrl+alt+del, scroll down and find Isass.exe), at times a message box immerge by saying that something went wrong with the program and the computer needs to shut down.

So, I assume its the OS software problem. Probably virus or spyware, messing up the computer. I decided to install XP Pro on top of the XP Home.

The question is, should I format the notebook? Because my notebook has this IBM software that comes with the notebook. So I'm too afraid that I would lost it.

2ndly, if I install XP Pro, will there be 2 (two) OS's?

3rdly, will my odd problems solved?

I think I have more questions but my head right now isn't so rational at the moment I post this one first. Thanks people for any help.

download stinger from nai.com. It will get rid of the virus. It is a sasser variant if I remember correctly. In regards to your other question. If you install XP Pro it will install a fresh copy and you will have two OS's on your computer. You would need to format your drive first. Installing XP Pro without formatting will not fix your problem.

Thanks batmeat. That really does help me a lot. Ill try format and install XP Pro. I think XP Home isn't so strong as XP Pro. I try work it out. I prefer format.

Good luck with the format. Yes XP Pro is better then the XP Home...especially when it comes to networking options
