I have 2 printers - laser (that uses USB) and desk jet (uses ports)
No problems for years but recently, when I try to print, a box says:
"no connection...check the port..bla..bla..bla".
So I think, this is odd. I have tried reconnection and reinstall driver. Is there anymore troubleshoot that I have not done?
But then, when I check at device manager, I found out that one USB port is un-recognizable or unknown. I don't suspect anything but could this be the problem?
Thanks.

Thanks. | That is your problem regarding the USB printer. You may need to re-install the USB drivers from your motherboard cd. It is also possible that your USB hub is going bad. |

It seems like the problem isn't the with the printers, but with the USB hub itself. Like batmeat said, reinstall the drivers for the USB ports and see if that fixes the problem.

try just right clicking on the bad usb port in device manager...remove it...then reboot..see what happens
if nothing else you can switch usb ports and see if the printer then works
if the usb is fried you can always get a seperate usb card
