| New computer, Router and LPT port problems
I builded this new computer for a friend.
Specs:
Board: Asus A8V Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000
RAM: 1024 Meg
Video: MSI
OS: Win XP Pro
Everything is working fine including a Pocket PC.
The D Link Router is having the dsl connection (PPPoE) and it shows that it is connected but whatever i do configuring IE, adding IP's etc.... there's no way that i can see any pages on the net. I tried configuring IE and it's still the samething. I also tried different cables and it's still the same. The connection is really there in the Router but it doesn't communicate with the PC. I verified the NIC, verified the IP's with xp winipcfg and that's fine.
The other problem that i'm also having is that there's no LPT port in the Device Manager and i'm trying to connect a Brother MFC4550 and xp is having the drivers in his configuration. The printer is there as default but doesn't seem to receive any communications from the computer.
Any suggestions will be helpful
Thanks |

Check in the BIOS set up and see if the LPT port is enabled.
Edit: try rebooting the Router. |

I'll do that thanks. Do you have any ideas about why the pc and the router are not talking to each other? |

Did you go into the routers control panel using your browser? |

Yip, i verified the router control panel using IE. It shows that it is connected, shows the ip for the connection from the isp. Using cmd i can see that ipconfig shows the right ip for the card whick as you know is given by the router.
I tried a lot of different configurations with the cables (crossover and straight) but it remains the same. |

Should all be strait cables unless the router dosen't have an uplink port.
If you got into the control panel, your computer can communicate with your router.
Check internet options settings |

No firewall running, tried straight and crossover cables in different configurations and still not able to have anything with IE, also verify internet connection settings and tried with and without ip's......
It's the first time that a router (or computer) is acting like that, usually installing and using a router is pretty easy to do. I was wondering if that amd 64 is having anything to do with it |
