So, I'd been looking around at different Anti-Viruses, since I used to use Norton, a nice waste of system resources, I decided to try AVG, and then I decided to try Avast!...
The results were interesting, since it seems as if everyone here uses AVG. I liked AVG but it lacked some of the features that I would have enjoyed from other AVs.
Norton used the most system resources, AVG used the second most, however much better than Norton, and Avast used the least system resources, and happened to have the options that I liked most of all the AVs.
There's the research section for you, however... </RESEARCH> <BACKGROUND>
This was only after a little incident that I had. I had uninstalled AVG, installed Avast, and updated a few other programs without restarting, thinking that things would be okay. They weren't. I got system lockups after restarting, and literally could do nothing. Thankfully, I sought out the best and quickest way to fix the issue, and so I went into Safe Mode, and backed up some important files that I had acquired in the last few days since my last system restore checkpoint (One of the few times that I didn't have a checkpoint ready, and I actually needed one). It was only four days difference though, although, that can amount to quite a bit, if you're hardcore.
Anyway... I got it all working, but one thing that I noticed, was that after I restarted (the restart before the 'mix-up' began)I noticed that, on the login screen, the link that normally said, 'Turn Off Paul's Computer' had changed simply to, 'Turn Off computer'. I then figured that it had to do with the windows error-ness, and the lockups; because after the system restore, it reverted back to, 'Turn Off Paul's Computer'.
So, I proceeded to uninstall AVG and reinstall Avast, using proper restarting techniques to assure success. Everything is working again however after the Avast Installation, it's displaying 'Turn Off computer'. </BACKGROUND> <QUESTION(S)>
This makes me believe that Avast is the cause of this. Has anyone else run into this problem with the computer name? If so, what's going on, and why would avast change that? Also, does anyone know of any way that I can actually just fix this (doesn't have to have happened to you)? </QUESTIONS(S)> <ALSO>
I have already tried going into My computer and seeing if the computer name was changed, but My Computer still labels it as 'Paul's Computer'. If I change the Computer name through my Computer to something else, and log off, it will display it correctly, however, after a restart, it's reverted right back to 'Turn Off computer'.
I organized the post in tags for easy reading, and it will hopefully increase response. Thanks. </ALSO>
