| External Hard Disk Problem
I have two external hard drives, both connected by USB. One works fine, the other has recently stopped working for no apparent reason. Not working means that it is no longer recognised as a drive by my computer.
I haven't a clue what to do or what information might be important to help solve this.
Needless to say, the disk has some important stuff on it!!
Can anyone help please?
Thanks |

The unit itself seems to be working, and if I uninstall the driver and reboot, the driver is reinstalled. But cannot see the drive in Windows Explorer / My Computer.
Given the above, how can I back up data? And what is a rma? |

I had the same thing happen to my external HD, it would not show up as a drive, it would not do anything. Lights on, hard drive running. For the life of me I cannot remember exactly what I did, I think I unplugged the HD from the USB port, shut the computer down then plugged it back into the USB port and it came up recognized. Don't give up on it. Good luck. |

Assuming you have XP. Use the safely remove hardware feature and reinstall as a new drive. Remember these things are portable. |

Sorry for my late respone, Ben.
The problem is my comp does not recognise the external hard disk, so nothing to remove... Then I tried to add a new hardware, but I failed for that...
What I am thinking is maybe some problems with my USBs on the motherboard. I may try to check the hard disk again later. But I do not have time now. I will tell you when I do that.
Thank you very much for ur fast reply & ur concern, Ben. |
