It's just odd that it would go out after only a couple of months of non demanding loads... In about a bit i'll probably pull the bastard out and see if any capacitors are blow or oozing.

Wow ok so I looked into the computer and noticed the big power cord to the mobo was loose I was ok so I tightend it back in and check everything and then turned on the pc when it gave me a long continous beeeeeeeep so I held my finger on the power button and didn't turn off so I hit the kill switch on the psu. I'm flipping out . I have no idea what I should do. take the psu open it up see if there is a leak anywhere to see that it is the psu thats causing the problem... cry.
Help,

The beep means somethings disconnected. Open the case back up, check the connctions (these in particular: cpu fan, 12vatx, floppy disk)

Those voltages are acceptable for the moment, run it under load for an hour or 2 and see how much they fluctuate. You might have fixed it by reconnecting the atx connector who knows

Isn't that new worm suppossed to have random/repeated restart effects? I know its mostly in Windows 2K, but it was also thought to have released on earlier versions of XP. Dunno.

Random restarts
I experience this problem, too. I installed the PC Probe included in the motherboard, when the CPU temperature reaches beyond 60 celcius, it restarts. I have setup nice ventilation in my CPU and still, it restarts.
I brought this CPU back to the supplier. I saw the technician replaced my power supply, the motherboard, the rams. It did work. But now, the problem is starting to go back.

Set the Temp threshold in the BIOS to a higher temp. you can go up to 90deg easily, 60deg is way too low for a prescott to be set at.

September 10th, 2005, 08:49 AM #34as ive said, when it reaches beyond 60 degrees celcius, it restarts. and besides, the bios limits me to set the threshold to 80 degress celcius only.

during night time (present) my computer will work fine. i have to test and try it tomorrow afternoon, ill set it to 70 or 80. if it still restarts, including the limit of my motherboard threshold to 40 to 50

beastgreely, where are you getting for values for "safe" temperatures? Looking here: http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm, the maximum case temperature is around 70C for Prescotts.
foxyreign, you need to do something about your CPU temperature. 60+C is too hot IMO. Get a bigger/better heatsink or a case with better airflow.
As a temporary measure, try taking the side off your case and pointing a room fan at it. If the restarts go away then you've definitely got some heat issues.

Ive already put a fan blowing 'furiously' at the side of the CPU and have removed the case on the side.
ill install a better heat sink this monday. i hope this resolves the heat issue.Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ Prescott w/ HT

Thanks for the extensive response, it's much appreciated! I'm definitely going to look at all these options. Do you think the prices of the 660, 660ti or 7870 will drop when the new cards come out?
