Hi,
Since a while, any additional peripherial that I plug into a USB port (digital camera Barcode scanner etc), doesn't work. I have the popup window close to the time at the right bottom saying that there a new equipment ready to be installed, the wizard opens, and I never can find any suitable drivers, and this equipment used to work correctly a while ago.
I tried to reinstall drivers using the Device Manager, but nothing works. It is identified in the Device Manager under Other devices, but I can never make them work.
Can anyone tell me what's happening.
My OS is Win XP Pro.
Thank you
Germain |

Install the drivers from the original disk not through windows, before inserting the peripheral |

you may want to look at "running tasks" under start/all programs/accessories/system(tools or info)/software environment/running tasks. Then one by one turn them off and try again. |

1- Do I have to unplug my camera or scanner each time I turn them off, and plug it back after I turned one off.
2- How do I get them back on, I presume it's by restarting the computer. |

You say it used to work a while ago? Has anything been changed from the time when it did work?
Are these usb connections on the motherboard or an add on periphial such as a hub etc?
How many usb devices are you running?

Sometimes it would be days between these occurrances; sometimes only 15 minutes apart; sometimes whe the computer was idle and sometimes when I was in a critical moment in an on-line game. I never did find out why it happened and eventually wound up selling the scanner; chalking it up to "incompatability" ...... (or ghosts)
PCs .... love `em when they are working, and, hate `em when they keep doing stupid things to make me figure out how to trick `em.
Now I try to read up on things before I buy, looking at reviews and paying more attention to oddities and incompatability issues. |

When you plugged it back in did you use the same USB port? With USB1.1 it used to be an issue with some equipment. |
